Kislev 1940 Jewish Calendar

December 1 – December 30, 1940 · 5701

A month of Chassidus, redemption, and light

Kislev moves from celebrations of recovery and liberation to the lights of Chanuka. Its Chabad milestones invite us to learn Chassidus, join a farbrengen, and share a mitzvah with another Yid.

What does Kislev mean?

The name Kislev appears in Tanach, including Nechemiah 1:1 and Zechariah 7:1. Chassidic explanations associate it with kesel, trust or confidence in Hashem. This is a spiritual reading of the name. Kislev is the ninth month when counting from Nissan.

Carry the month into practice

Set aside time for Chassidus and a farbrengen around Yud-Tes and Chof Kislev. Before Chanuka, prepare a menorah and candles and arrange to help someone else light. A small addition to daily learning can carry the month's inspiration forward.
