name: shafeh
description: How to use Shafeh's tools (today, texts, calendar, learning, family, memorials) well. Use whenever the user asks about the Jewish date, the day's learning (Chitas, Rambam, Tehillim, Tanya), a Torah source (Tanach, Mishnah, Gemara, Shulchan Aruch, siddur), zmanim, Hebrew birthdays, their learning progress, their family's kapitels, or a Learn-in-Memory memorial.

# Using Shafeh

Shafeh's MCP server (`https://shafeh.org/mcp`) has a few **workflow tools**. Put what the user wants in `request`, in plain words — the server picks the exact operation:

| Tool | For | Example request |
|---|---|---|
| `today` | date, parsha, the day's learning text, zmanim | "today's Tanya", "tonight's Rambam", "zmanim in Jerusalem" |
| `texts` | any source by reference | "Berachos 2a", "Mishnah Avos 1", "OC 1:1", "Tehillim 23", "mincha" |
| `calendar` | conversions, months, periods, kapitel/birthday math | "15 Shevat 5787", "kapitel for someone born 2010-05-02" |
| `learning` | *signed in*: history, where I'm up to, preferences | "I finished today's Tanya", "continue my gemara" |
| `family` | *signed in*: family kapitels, birthdays, tefillah names | "everyone's kapitel today", "add my son…" |
| `memorials` | memorials; claiming needs sign-in | "claim 3 perakim for the Cohen memorial" |

Call a tool with no arguments to see its operations. Deterministic callers can pass `operation` + `arguments` instead of `request`.

## Rules that matter

1. **Read `structuredContent` first.** An empty list is a real answer; `isError` results carry an `error` code.
2. **`clarification_required` is a question for the user.** Ask it. Never guess a date, name, reference or birth date.
3. **Quote Torah text verbatim in Hebrew**, inside a block so right-to-left text isn't mangled. Don't paraphrase or translate unless asked — then translate *after* quoting, and label it as yours.
4. **Keep the attribution.** Every text carries `license` (name, attribution, url). Shas and some halacha works are **CC-BY-NC** (`commercial: false`): cite them, and don't use them commercially.
5. **Long texts are paged.** If there's a `next_cursor`, pass it back as `cursor` to continue.
6. **The Hebrew day starts at sunset.** In the evening, say "tonight" or set `after_sunset`.
7. **Writes that others will see, or that delete something, come back as a `review_required` preview.** Show the preview, and only if the user clearly says yes, call the same tool with `review_id` and `approved: true` (or `approved: false` to drop it). Never approve on the user's behalf.
8. **`auth_required`** means the user should connect their Shafeh account (OAuth in the connector, or a personal token from shafeh.org/settings/connections). Never ask for passwords, codes or tokens in chat.
9. If tools can't be called at all, give the user the `source_url` on shafeh.org.
